Thanks, Pat! I frequently use the 80-400VR, at 400mm. for florals. This gives me about 6-7 feet working distance and is handy in gardens where it would not be correct to wade into the plantings. It is also easier to line up the composition elements. With the VR there is reasonable sharpness but I know it would be better with tripod and MLU. I like the freedom and speed that comes from working without the tripod, as well, do not want to obstruct the pathway for others.
