Thank you for your comments and suggestions Doyle.

Looks like there is now a moon to the right of the mountain, as a result of the editing?

All the best,
Ed

Awesome Edward . . . first and foremost. As for the time of day I think the idea is to get the sun at such an angle that the shadows are lengthened and the colors have a golden hue . . . nice, but not always possible. And, frankly, I'd rather have this shot at ANY time than not have it at all.
Brightness, contrast (esp. midtones) and saturation could all probably use a slight tweak. I have an example because, like the rest, this is an image that is just too cool not to mess with. Very majestic. Ideally, I would separate the BG from the foreground to adjust, but that's not possible here at work where my sole tool is Microsoft Picture Manager.
Your foreground is spot-on perfect! Love the details and focus! Love the composition. Love the locale. All in all . . . this is one really good shot!!
:)

Doyle I <~~~~~

Slight changes in Light and Saturation Example

Thanks for clarifying "Thomson Tree" for me. As for the reworked photo I submitted, yes, it is too dark but I didn't have time to really work with it as if it were my own.

The other ting is I have to judge what I see on my screen when I do adjustments. I often get told that something looks blurry or too dark. It's probably because of the three/four year-old, probably cheap, graphics card in my computer (I have a new, high dollar monitor).

The only way for me to accurately judge my too-dark images is to see them on another computer, which of course, isn't that easy to accomplish.

In any event, I knew that I had overburned the smaple I posted, certainly not intending to replace your image for you but rather, give you an idea of the changes possible.

Best wishes,
Dave

Thank you for the comments and suggestions Dave.

I believe you mean the acacia trees; I called the previous image “Thomson Tree” because it had a group of Thomson’s Gazelles under it.

I somewhat understand what you are suggesting, but find your version much too dark. So far I think José example was the best.

All the best,
Ed

Excellent capture of this famous scene, Ed! Very good dof to bring in everything from forground to the peak in sharp focus. Just for the record I like your version just as much as the others. You can always change colour and lighting, but only the photographer can tell if the finished image compares to what he or she saw at the time.
Dave.

Edward

I took the liberty of doing a few adjustments to your photo, using the levels and curves adjustments. I also burned in (or out) some of the haze. Just to show you what I and the others are ralying.

This is not a great adjustment job, may have burned a little too much. Just a quicky to show you.

Great classic landscape and I really like the presence of the "Thomson trees" (I think that's what you called them). To me, those represent Africa and this landscape.

I do agree with the others, though, I would love to see the sky a bit bluer and some of the haze knocked down a bit by burning some shadows at maybe 2% to 5%...

Still an awesome landscape, you lucky duck.

Best wishes
Dave

Thank you for your comment José.

I like your suggestion with the extra colour. I would be the first to admit that I need a lot of work when it comes to photo-editing.

All the best,
Ed

Hi. With a simple touch from Picasa, the Google tool for viewing and editing pictures, you can make something like this.
Hope you like it. By the way, great photo ;)

Thank you for the comment Jinggoy.

I wish I had the chance to shoot it again, it was an amazing trip, unfortunately I am no longer in Kenya. It was actually morning when I shot it, not sure I would call it dawn but was nowhere close to mid-day.

I did try isolating the mountain, but found the shot a little boring without the extra colours and shapes of the foreground.

Of course I don't mind your critique; I welcome them as it is the whole point of this forum.

Thanks again,
All the best,
Ed

Thank you for your comment Stephen.

It was actually early morning when I took the shot, so not really hazy, but not full light either. I only actually took the shot because I was bored waiting for the other vehicles to show up.

I really have no experience when it comes to photo editing, perhaps you could post an example of your suggestion in terms of curve adjustment.

All the best,
Ed

Hi Ed,
Here goes mine... I'd agree with Stephen on the saturation. But if you have a chance to shoot there again, why not shoot with the magic light (dusk or dawn)? The sun's reflection and rays will be more warmer during these times and give the mountain glow.

Maybe also try to shoot with a much longer focal lenght to isolate Mt. K? Hope you don't mind my critique.

You sure are lucky to have a chance to see this great place! Take Care!

Good saturation in the foreground. The backround with mountain (great mountain by the way) and the sky looks a little bland. Was it hazy? I'd try to go for more punch with some selective curves work on the backround of the image only. Maybe even push the blue a little with selective color. I think just a curves adjustment would make a great deal of change. It lacks contrast. The foreground could use a little but it looks very good as is. Great photo. I hope that helps. If you make changes post the modified version. I like the photo a lot. Makes you want to be there with a tripod. Congrats!

Steve
