Yes the 100x400 canon L IS. Many tell me that for birding it will come up short on many an occasion. They are right. I think a 600mm prime is the lens of choice but we are just amateurs who play with toys. Your 300 if you are close enough will suffice at a 100% crop. Until you get more serious and more money.

Nice capture of the bird. The detail is great. I like the play of lighting filtering throuh the branches on to his face and the more true to color photo.. The patterns the background are good and not so as to take away from your focus.
Super job.
What lens do you use for your bird photography. Is it a 100-400 zoom lens. What brand, and do you like it a lot? I know, I know, so many questions but am looking for a new zoom, at least a 400 to take to the wild bird sanctuary here. My 300 does not even come close to being a long enough zoom.

I don't know anything about chickadees, but this is a great capture of a beautiful bird. The colors and details are good. I like the way the shadows fall across his body, that adds a lot of depth to the shot.
