Danny -- I have to agree w/Doyle on this one. I think the tighter crop on the other image strengthens the composition and better conveys the mood. Still, I think this B&W, alternative crop has merit of its own. It just fosters a different feeling. My bias (of late at least) is toward more tightly cropped compositions -- especially when the image has such native, dynamic impact as this one does. The treatment you gave the tighter crop also eliminated the "head" line noted by Miranda. I think Doyle speaks for me, too, when he declares this image is good, but the prior version is outstanding.
Best Regards, -Mike.

Classic portrait and such a character. The depth of field looks a little strange to me though, the lower background is blurred (which i like)yet the clouds are sharpish - I find this contrast a little strange. Regards, Gary

Great classic portrait Danny. Expression is reminiscent of the Bolshevik period around the turn of the century. (20th century) A real period piece. An adjustment of light may have given this shot better facial skin tone, but your choice of monochrome really helps establish the period. Nice job Danny. -john

Danny: The same version (with the same title) of this shot in color . . . with a much tighter crop . . . had a great deal more impact. I think you lost some of the strength in the composition (my opinion, mind you) by widening the shot. The B&W has good tonal range . . . but doesn't carry the dramatic impact I felt from the color version. Both are fascinating shots . . . but the color is more than that. In my opinion . . . it is outstanding. This is good.

great subject!!!! the only thing I don't like is the line cutting through his head. Very distracting. Great eyes though

Fantastic, love the depth of field and the choice of B+W. I can't think of any improvements other than to sharpen slightly, but this is a minor.
