About This DoF was on purpose. There was a bend in the leaf which dropped the snail so the shell would be at the same level as the right side of the leaf. I thought It made an interesting comparison. The leaf was also backlit by the sun. I would be interested if anyone has any thoughts.

I like the composition and splitting the focus in the frame. But, I feel the focus should ahve been on the snail. By doing that it would have bought the details of the snail's shell as it is the main subject of the photo.

hi,i like elements of this comp, but still deciding if i find the blur on shell and beneath it as an enhancement,or not so much...my eyes had a strong reaction upon initial viewing...i do love the back-lit leaves with the detail veining, colors and filling the frame with the leaf...the snail placement within the framing doesn't work for me...perhaps if it was lower
Like the idea tho' ;>
regards,gayle

Thank you Giuseppe, it does have an odd look to it. You will be happy to know that I have some pictures of just the leaf with that backlit sun.
All the best to you.

Well Chris so it's impressive and original. But you know that I am a "naturalist" and to me the photo looks not natural, strange; only to me perhaps. And the patterns of the backlit leaf are so beautiful that it's a pity to hide a piece of it. That is what I feel.
Ciao Chris.

Giuseppe

No critiques on this one Chris. It looks great. The exposure is really nice. It would be fun to try this one with the focus on the snail too for an entirely different presentation.

Another great image, Chris!

You have a certain style that I am beginning to recognise without reading your name!

Keep them coming!

Cheers

Phil

No one ever accused me of having a thought...so this is an excellent presentation...the snail is jumping right off the background

An interesting contrast in the shapes of the snail shell and patterns in the leaf, Chris! Well seen and captured!

Oh no, I hope this isn;t the poor snail from the other photo, :)

I like the way you've set up the focus to be split like that.

Good job.

Best wishes,
Dave

WOW. what a great capture Chris, love the DOF. The shells looks like floating over the leaf. Great capture.

Great find. The way you've shot it gives the appearance that the snail is not actually attached to the leaf, as though the snail were floating or moving across a barrier set apart from the leaf. Or maybe that the snail's body is attached to the leaf but the shell is falling away.
