Fantastic job Samuel. Love the lighting and you did a magnificent job with the DOF. I find the dark band a bit distracting as well. But such wonderful composition. I love the added shadow. I think a "series" of such food products would be a wonderful project for you. Garlic...apples...etc. etc.?

Mary Sue, Yes, I placed the onion on a large white foam core board and shot so as not to see the edges...

Mary Sue, Thanks for the feedback on the photo. I shot this in a room that has both a large window and an overhead difussed skylight - and I live in Arizona. I just got the camera and wanted to shoot something to put on this site. I intentionally kept the front down (perhaps mistakenly) to give the scene more contrast. I had other shots with more details in the the shadows, but tossed them already. Also, I was mixed on the 'black line' also...

I'm a fan of food photos, so this one appealed to me right away. I'm a bit distracted by the dark stripe that transects the onion, even though it is part of the skin. That might not bother others though. I'd also like to see just a bit of light reflected onto the front so there was more detail in the shadows.
How did you shoot this against a white background? Again, I like this photograph.
