Yes, it was her father, someone I happen to have known for many years. Rather than being protective, he was desperately trying to find something purposeful to do while I was waffling on at him and his daughters, and introducing them to other players - anyone who happened to be passing by.
Then the two girls chased me round the football field.
They seemed to think it was fun.
A month later, the self-proclaimed father grabbed me in front of the people in my group ("team" ffs) and said how he liked the photographs.
The people in my team hurried away, not knowing how to cope with expressions of enthusiasm.

Big old people can exude that look too, I find.
They are the people you tend to want to talk to, but are too busy interacting with society to have time for such frolicking.

Funny...the man's hand at the right didn't disturb me at all. I immediately interpreted it as a protective Dad, watching the process from nearby.
I love the expression of the child in the foreground...she's beautiful, in the way only children can be.
I also love the sense of movement of the child in the background and her impish expression, as well as the extreme perspective...it all works, and beautifully.

Yes, it does lend an element of intrigue to an image.
That is why I never leave home without an extension ladder and a bag of spare rungs if I intend to take photos (I am only 90cm tall myself, though I can jump above houses).

No, all in camera. The only software effect I used was to switch to b/w.
The blur effect comes from the low depth of field and her moving.
Yeah!

An Englishman in Germany, speaking French? I'm impressed :). Nice photo too. I like photos of children taken from a high perspective. The front girl has great eyes indeed, but the girl moving behind her is a key element. Without her, this would be just a nice portrait of a cute girl. Did you blur it in PS? It seems a bit unnatural.

The emphasis came about by simply manipulating the colours to b/w tones, making her gaze a little more penetrating than it was in reality...
