I really like the title that you have chosen. Black and white would be interesting, but I think that it would lose that middle of nowhere, nothing but prairie feel. Black and white seems to be a more contempory format, I think the photograph would look good, but it would be a totally different shot.
On a more serious note, I've never been totally happy with the colour in this shot. I tried playing with the colour balance and such but never was happy with the result. Maybe a B&W would be the answer - I'll have to try that some day.
An interesting shot. I wondered if it wouldn't have a nice Dirty 30s "Farm Security Administration" look to it in black and white. Playing with levels, etc, in an attempt to bring some detail into that burned out patch in the centre, I discovered the below. Interesting... Da Vinci Code, prairie style?
