About Bidens formosa - a naturalised weed originally from central America and the West Indies. Brought into South Africa in the horse fodder imported during the Anglo Boer war. Now commonly found in disturbed places on the central highveld and grasslands of South Africa, where it can become a nuisance in maize fields. This is the first time I found this weed in the Western Cape, in front of a farm stall where it was probably planted by the owner for its beautiful display during the autumn months. Standing more than 2 meters high with masses of pink, white and maroon flowers on display. It was about 30 minutes before sunset and I just had to stop to take a few shots.

To overcome the high contrast of the late afternoon light, I used fill in flash from the camera flash. Uncropped and slightly adjusted the colour and sharpness in PS.

Goeie grysperd, maar dis pragtig! In good years, masses of these cosmos flowers line our roads, here in southern Natal, and every water colour painter (of whom we have many around here) have churned out stacks of cosmos paintings over the years. But this beats anything that I've had the honour to see - brilliant homage to this humble plant, Joggie.

I like these flowers silhouetted against the sky. I guess a low angle is not so difficult if the plants grow 2 metres high! Good work to still get some colour in the sky and the bee is a nice accent.

Very impressive the mood of the sunset shown by the warm and vivid colours and the splendid light contrast. I like this kind of picture Joggie.
We have this nice flower in Italy too, in the gardens, but the origin is far: in Mexico. It will begin to blossom in 3-4 months.
I go to bed now. Ciao.

Hi Joggie, lovely shot, I get a nice sense of a gentle breeze, I suppose due to the DOF. I didn't see the bees a first...busy little buggers anyway.
