Hi Joanna,

This lens I would rate as good. It shows a bright image in the viewfinder. The zoom focal length is fantastic for travel photography. It has good construction (metal) and weight and is fairly sharp. This lens works best on my film cameras but performs well in a pinch on my digitals (due to the magnification factor of the digitals). The lens (18-70mm) that comes with the D70 is a good lens as sharpness goes (ED glass elements) but lacks a large aperture.

In general, I recommend buying a fixed focal length lens with a large aperture before buying a zoom lens. If buying a zoom, buy a lens with a constant aperture.

Terry I am struggling with a decision to purchase this lens or a different one. How do you like your Nikon 24-85. It would be the perfect range/size/weight for me. I am wondering if it is sharp?
