A beautiful animal! Very nicely composed. Great detail in the feathers, talons, and face. The soft pastel patches of background color really sets this image off. And, thanks for the details on how the capture was made. I always appreciate the story behind a good image.

Well Bill, it isn't so much timing as it is getting the right guide. This was a wild bird but it was in a location where they have been fed by the ranch owner previously and they were lured in by about ten pounds of raw meat on this occasion. You also have to photograph them before they fill up their craws because after they are full, they sit in the trees looking like penguins with their chests all pumped full of food. Not pretty at all. The hawks got there first or there could have been other raptors as well. It took over an hour before they came in to take a look on this occasion which, according to the guide, is rather unusual. Photography from a blind is a test of patience sometimes. Thanks for the comments.

Fred,
Awesome capture, What I wouldn't give to do as well. One of these days I'll be in the right place at the right time.
Congrats, very very nice.

Dave: This was a blind setup at one of the ranches. He knows his birds and it shows. There were Turkey Vultures and Crested Cara Cara buzzing us as well but the Harris Hawks hunt in groups and it discouraged the others.

Wonderful capture of the hawk, Fred! I tried all last summer to come up with one, with varying results, but I'll be out there again this year!
Dave.
