I like the composition and lighting. The dof is what really sets this apart. Well done. Regards Ron.

Hi Mikael, I'm not exeperienced in food photography either, but I'll give it a shot.

To answer your question, does it work? I'd say yes. Definitely. A few things I notice:

+ The DOF is very well used to single out the primary subject from the peripheral subjects.

+ I like the diagonal composition and how the elements fill the image; with only the important one entirely in view.

+ I like the repetitive colour in the background. A subtle, but very functional detail.

+ Excellent work on the shadows and angle of lighting. Very complementing, as well as emphasising the individual shapes of the strawberries.

- The lighting seems just a tad too bright, causing some blown out parts on the left (fork and glass), reducing the contrast with the high key background.

- The highlights on the strawberries are a bit too much, I believe. It creates a bit of a plastic feel.

- The freshness of the strawberries lacks a bit. It's difficult if not impossible to find the juiciest and brightest, flawless strawberries this time of year....:)

- The green glass seems out of place, IMO, the tone does not quite fit the fresh and crisp tones elsewhere in the photo

- The point of focus on the strawberries seem to be placed a bit too much to the front, which places the farthest side of the strawberries already out of focus

- As the strawberries and the cup they're in have a predominantly horizontal placement, I think a landscape format would've suited the subject better.

Very good shot, though. I really like this approach.

Cheers,

Hugo

The strawberry colour makes the sense of healthy food . Vey clever also the white surround and the dof.

As I told before... it works ;)
