About Another from the anti war protest march in London, UK on 15 February 2003. This was one of the few spots where I managed to get a known landmark into the shot, although I had to hang precariously off the edge of an elevated bench to do so :). These people were near the front, marchers continued filing passed this point for at least 4 hours after this shot was taken - amazing considering how cold it was. As with the rest of the series, I hope people will not rate these shots according to their political beliefs.

Don?t be afraid of I mix picture with politics. It is against my ethics and I would like politics be discussed elsewhere. Here is not, emphatically, the place.
Your picture is very good, is a great piece of journalism. The best photo journalist shot what they see, but not get , themselves ,into the meaning of the thing they are reporting. To me what is written is not important, but important is you did well showing them. The composition is very good , with the instant identification of the Big Ben, to situate the event. Very well done.

jorge

As someone who takes photos for a newspaper -- on a much smaller scale-- I admire the artistry in this photo yet the important moment in history that it captures. I gave it a 3 though because I think the U.S. should bomb the crap out of Irag. Okay, just kidding! I gave it a...8...oops, meant to hit 9 (I always forget about that zero at the end). Very nice shot, Megan -- thanks for sharing for us aspiring photo journalists who couldn't make it to such important events.

This is excellent photography. You have taken an interesting story and MADE it artistic. Notice how the attachmant without the people would be considered a very good landscape image by itself. Well captured!! (9

i've seen a lot of these types shots since yesterday and to me they seem to work for me best in B+W. i think it's perhaps the gloom of the subject that almost requires it.
anyway hope you don't mind but here's my take on it -

Thanks for the comment Julien. That was exactly what I was trying to achieve by including tradional landmarks, although many of them sacrificed composition for that. This one I liked. I'll be looking out for your shots of the march in Amsterdam :)

I think this photo shows very well how many people were there yesterday. I thought Amsterdam was full of people, but compared to places like London and Madrid, Amsterdam was quiet :-)

What I like about this photo is the journalistic value that comes to light when you consider the political/historical background. All around the world governements are not saying what the people are saying. This "fact" comes forward well in this photo because of the sign that says "Not in my name"

I also like how you managed to include elements of the city so you know where it was without needing to mention it in words.

Going to scan some more of mine now ! :-)

Regards,
Julien
