Hi, Greg. Good luck with the 20d. I am sure you will see a difference technically, but a good eye is a good eye.
Get ready to read the manual because it will be a lot more complicated, if you do not just use it on automatic.
I am still studying my Nikon 200D manual after a year. I prefer using it on automatic in most cases, but the quality is incredible with 15 mg files on Raw.
Have fun, Lee

Hi Lee - thanks for your kind words. Unfortantly I'm limited with settings on my camera. The iso only goes to 400 although I should have tried that. Am hoping to get a dslr soon - have been promised a canon 20d so maybe my photography might inprove. Cheers Greg

Hi, Greg. I think it is a powerful photo. You got a great result considering it is a fixed lens. But I am thinking about what Mike said. You might have been able to focus the sun rays down a bit by raising the ISO, if it would make the lens stop down more - like to 1600 ISO.
I used the sharpen filter on the photo for the sun and rays and levels to open up the foreground. I will attach it if you want to compare...
Regards, Lee

Great sunset series, hard to select one as best. They're all so beautiful. Thank you for your comment on my "Injured cat." I've been visiting it daily & feeding it for several days now & it seems to be doing relatively well. Tomorrow night our tenant, a veterinary, will see it & decide how it can best be helped. Best regards, Rafi

Thanks John. Your right - driving along and spotted the sun going down. By the time I jump an electric fence and made my way across the paddock I had very little time. Will try to get back there and have another go. Thanks for the input - much appreciated. Regards Greg

It seems to me Greg that you were 10 minutes to late in taking the shot, otherwise you would have got a lot more detail instead of a dark mass, having said that I guess the sun would need to be out of the picture slightly, Keep trying with different settings.

It's just a real tough situation[at least for me]to photograph. A photographer friend of mine has all the gadgets & for sunsets he uses a horizontal neutral density filter. If you're the type of person that doesn't mind setting up, they work pretty good. A little expevsive though. Those are some pretty neat landscapes you have & for you it would be worth it to look into some filters. I just hope I can get down there some day instead of looking at the pictures in National Geographic.

Thanks Mike appreciate this but would like to know what settings would have improved this or what technic should have been used. Am trying to learn from each photo so any advice is welcomme. i guess my biggest problem may be having a camera with limited settings. Keen to hear your views. Regards Greg

I saw most of your portfolio & you have shown how beautiful a place New Zealand is, but not with this picture. There is that blotch of yellow that is supposed to be the sun & no detail at all in the shadows. The clouds are even a little out of focus. This just doesn't measure up to the rest of your work.
