About The sun has been out here for several days now with no new snow so the birds are reappearing. This little guy liked the peanut butter and seeds on our posing branch. I hadn't ever caught one quite this blue. Perhaps it's just a fluke. On-camera fill flash used.

Andre: They are indeed tiny birds. The image on the screen is about twice life size when set to large. They are small and quick, although not as quick as the hummingbirds. This is actually a good angle for them as they are a bit comical from the front, I think. Thanks for your comments.

Laura: The extension tubes don't seem to change the depth of field they just get me close enough to shoot these little fellows on my back deck. It's only about ten feet to the posing branch I've put up for them to alight on. The peanut butter you see on the right is what brings them in. Minimum focusing distance without the extension tubes on the 500mm is around 15 feet or 4.5 meters. The extension tubes work fine with lens alone but I can't get them to work with the extender at all. Thanks for your kind comments.

This one is just perfect Fred! The details in the feathers is fantastic! I wonder if most people realize how small this guy is?

Hi Fred,

This is a nice capture. Great color and detail on the bird. I know how hard it is to get the subject in focus, especially with a long lens. Does the extension tube make it easier to get better depth of field?
