Thank you Dave for your comment.
Tell the truth due to my bad English Language, I did not understand what you are trying to tell me.
I appreciate your time in order to write such an essay.

Hi Kambiz

This is not something I understand but then there are a lot of things in this world I don't understand. I can only shake my head sometimes.

As for the photo, I had no idea what it was when I clicked on it. It looked interesting. And it was even more interesting after reading your description. Though I never read other people's comments before I write my own, I wanted to find out what all the hubbub was about. I see there was a tet-a-tet over the photo by some.

Regardless, the photo is interesting knowing what I have read in your description. It is interesting because it is macabre of sorts. I have sat and looked at it, trying to imagine people flogging themselves in the name of a religion, a God, whatever. And since that is provoked thought, then your picture is superb in bringing that provacation about. It is what a photo should be: provocative.

Congratulations,
Dave

Thank you Billy for your comment.

Billy do NOT forget that people like John with his sad and closed mentality managed to destroy our beautiful world.
No wonder that the whole planet is in mess as a result of John's closed mind and those people with a very narrow minded ones!!

THIS MY RESPONSE TO John Pickles:

Wouldn't be much nicer not to say any words from your very closed narrow minded brain.
Just take your retirement in peace.
If really you are interested in learning whats going on around the REAL WORLD, rather than your own close minded world, then travel to Middle East, Far East, and the areas of those countries such as Africa, Vitenam, Thiland, etc which were wounded by your fellow men people who were thinking like you.
I am very sorry for people like you who DO NOT KNOW whats going on on our planet earth and it's people.

hi,Kambiz...this is my first time seeing these and thanks for sharing a traditional aspect of your culture that most of us are unaware of...
I think that the composition could be stronger by getting a closer shot...

Regarding Heleen,i think there is an obvious misunderstanding on her part due to language differences...you use the wording,"awful opinion" rather than say "sorry you disapprove of my image or about"...this seems to confuse her and then she thinks you are saying "photos are bad on UF"...i don't know how to get a translate button since i speak and write in English, but perhaps you should either check google translation before you write in English if not sure of which English words to use,or write in your own language and provide the "Translate button" so others can better understand what you are trying to say...

Now, John P. also seems to misunderstand the intent of your images and abouts...it is obvious to me and many others here at UF that he is also not showing mutual respect....i would suggest to him to read the FAQs (rules of UF) and to conduct himself according to those rules which is how UF operates best for our multi-cultural global community...John P. will also receive this comment

You have done nothing wrong by posting your cultural/religious images,Kambiz...peace,gayle

what a fuss!
It's a picture, not a political action.
All major religons have some ritual of self- sacrifice, sometimes very bloody.
I like the composition.

Dear Rashed, Salam.
I am sorry about your very awful openion.
I am NOT trying to show anything except to show the cultural value of Iranian people during month of Muhaaram.

THIS IMAGE IS NOT RELATED TO ANY POLITICAL CONCEPTS AT ALL!!!!!

It is about the mourning ritual in Iran.
For several hundreds years, the Muslim people in this part of the world mourn in this way.
I as a photojournalist just recording these images.

That's all.

You are absolutely right there John, these images do not serve the Art of Photography at all but a specified political opinion of an individual.

Salam Saeed
There are different weights. There are some light one for novice people and some heavy one.
Also I have seen few Zangeer that each link is connected to small cutting edge like small knife which I think that action inhumane.

Impressive, I so those in TV only, must be difficult withstanding such action.
