About Seattle sunset as viewed from Lake Union Gasworks park...

Handheld in very low light...the FG stones are as found...looked like someone created a sculpture by adding to the top...

Thanks for any feedback....

You've got rock steady hands to capture this beautiful sunset, like much the warm lighting reflecting in the water. The silhouette in the foreground @ first I thought were birds till I read your about. Thanks much for the comment to my image, in regards to your question I did obtain media credentials to cover the game (Courtside), cameras are allowed as I've seen spectators taking photos from the stands, warm regards.

Gayle, nice exposure and concept with inclusion of the foreground rock abstract. I think your off-hand technique is good. The softness is more impression from the foreground which is pushing the depth of field. I suppose with a tripod you could have opened a stop or two.

Hi Gayle, I like the composition here, with the rock leading the viewer into the sunset. It balances the compositon nicely. Good shot...

Cheers,

Hugo

Well you do have a very steady hand Gayle. Mine would be a blur I'm sure in that light. What a sunset...just gorgeous!

First, before open up the shot i thought there was some people bleow watching the bridge and sunset but i see it´s not. So unusual and strange silhouette, can´t be birde either. Nice and unusual sunset shot!

hi and thanks for comment....actually i would like to go back and use my tripod at same time at night just to see if makes a difference...the only light was the reflective colors in sky and reflecting off the water...shot would have benefited from a slower shutter....crazy thing is,i have shot all of the over 500 images i have here at UF sans tripod and sharpness hasn't been a problem...i'm wondering if my diabetic eye probs. i am experiencing now are worse than i realize.....time for a checkup!

I'd love to see this taken with a tripod, Gayle. The colors are beautiful and I love the composition, but it seems awfully soft to me, due to hand holding. Imagine ME, of all people, suggesting a tripod! I used to think they were WAY overrated, but now I try to use one whenever possible. Go figure!

Oh I didn't realise they were rocks on a rock. It was too dark to know what the sculpture was. I'm glad you didn't wade out there cause you may have toppled someone's art. This way you've left it in tact for someone else to enjoy it. (psssst - I still reckon it looks like an alien life form sitting on that rock)

Cheers - Ann :)

hi,hdw...if you look in the "About" and the specs listed, you will read that it is a handheld shot with film iso/asa 400 speed....i am still a confirmed "film" user and i can hold my N60 steady in most situations sans a tripod...good shootin' to ya!

WOW Gayle!!!

Gorgeous colours and I love the warm red reflections flowing through the water to the foreground. It looks like some sort of strange alien type creature is sitting on the rock making such an unusual silhouette but it can't be cause it's non-fiction and that would put it into the Sci Fi category. therefore it must just be really weird rock but whatever it makes for a great foregound interest. Really nice control over your lighting here with the splashes of urban night lights. A beautiful scene. Really well done for a hand held. Great job.

Cheers - Ann :)
