About At least what it seems.
In fact it's a patch of melting snow on a glass fence from a skihut.

Wow, so much comments and EC, Thanks!,

Was drinking a hot chocolate during my ski holiday in the sun with my back against the window, when I looked up I saw this image.
Fortunately I had my little Ixus with me, so I held the camera against the glass and pressed the shutter (Ok several times ;-))
I liked the shot myself but had no idea it was so appealing.

Excellent photograph because of the simplicity of colors and design.
Quite strange: I have no idea of the 'scale' of that iceberg.
Best regards, Jan

PS I just read your 'About' and that answers my question (and did not wonder me).

This feels awesome to me. The strong and bold sense of color so gently and effectively playing off of itself as it plays around the frozen water. Well placed, well seen obviously and so very well composed and taken. Its wonderful to see images from a taken point of view and much less a snap shot.

Some people wonder about all these people carrying digitals these days. There is no room for wonder or worry as 99% of them will never take an image like this. Well done.

Thanks for the fine example in what can be done with simplicity and a good eye.

Thank you indeed.

Wow! It looks like something you could use as a backdrop for a movie that use's a lot of computer imaging in place of big budget film. Very cool shot.

What a cool photo and I would have never guessed (correctly) had you not described this. You could've fooled me, I thought you took a trip to Antartica.

Congratulations on EC. Much deserved.

Best wishes,

What makes it very pleasing are the simplicity of the colors (only two main colors), the deep blue, the gradient of blue, the striking white ice, the reflection, and the composition itself. Excellent!

This is a wonderful example of truly 'seeing' what is around us, the photographer's third eye.
A thousand people could have been right there and missed seeing this in the sense that you did.
Great capture, turned out super.

Simply stunning. The simple composition and the restricted colour space both help emphasise the solitude and form of the image. Great work.

Hi Lex,
Thanks, no PS truc at all, just the right composition to create an illusion.
To give you an idea, I'l post a "normal" view.
Left = glass, right = sky.
Groet,
John

Prachtig werk, echt fantastisch!

Groet, Lex.

Congratulations on the Editor's Choice.

What an awesome photo of this iceberg. Funny how you don't think much of a photo other than liking the image yourself, and then you win EC. Fantastic!

What I like is the pureness of the photo. The water is so blue and the ice berg is so white. Pure, clean and absolutely breathtaking.

A beautiful simplistic image with nice bold colours. Very strong mood. I too thought it was a crisp clean landscape. Your title got me too. :) Congratulations on a well deserved award. Sometimes the images we think are least likely to please are the ones that are the most popular.....especially in here. :)

Congrats again.

Cheers - Ann :)

I really appreciate this kind of opportunist creative vision. It makes a very strong graphic abstract and takes the mind off to polar regions and immense ice flows, whereas in fact it's a miniature landscape appearing on your balcony! Very nicely done and good for the EC. Ian

Thanks Sanjeev,

No studio at all. It's been taken outside.
The upper blue is the sky and the darker blue is the reflection of the sky in a glass terrace window at a ski restaurant somewhere in the Alps.

Hi Hugo,

Sometimes we're simply too busy, work, holiday and other duties.
But I promise improvement ;-)

The white line is trace of meltwater running down the glass.
I think it adds something extra.

Groet,
John

Hi John, It's been quite some time! How have you been? What an incredibly stron photo this is. The simplicty is so very effective, and the tones and contrasts seem to be spot on. For me, it gives a few others in your portfolio a good run for their money where "your best photo" is concerned. Superb stuff.

Just curious: what is that little white line just below the reflection on the right side of the image?

Cheers,

Hugo.
