Congratulations for featured doner, glad it got me to take longer look at your great portfolio. This is a super capture, even if it didn't have twig in bill, which adds even more to image.

Yes, he or she (I can never tell) was building a nest and as you can see by the size of the branch it took him quiet a while! Most of the small sticks they bring end up on the ground because they just can't make them stay on the branches......but they really try very hard to get one started!! Thanks for the comment! Darlene

Wow! This is a great capture. Was the bird building a nest? I'm curious what is behind the bird holding the twig. This may very well be one of your best.

Ah, Darlene I have missed your colorful birds and comments. I am curious as to why you chose the fixed 400 lens as opposed to the 100-400 IS zoom? I find in taking the wildlife pictures around here that the fixed lens limit you on moving targets, especially if they are coming towards you. Do you have that problem? Waiting impatiently for May :) Thanks for the wonderful picture of your family! Hugs! Pat

Thanks so much for the comments Andre! Most of the spoonbill are taken at Lake Martin which is a Nature Conservancy! But most of the other birds are taken around the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, in the rivers and bays , they're everywhere! Pelicans, cormorants, egrets, herons and all types of sea gulls are all over the place in these places. And of course we have a bald eagles nest that is 3 miles from our camp in Terrebone parish. The eagles were not there last year, an owl took over their nest and had their young ones there,,,,,,,,but they're back in the nest! I think I may get out that way to see if I can get some more shots of them. I don't like to stay too long by the nest, I don't want to stress them out! Happy Holidays Andre and you must try and get down here to take some pictures! Darlene

Hi Darlene, You have some great looking birds down there! Fantastic colours and details in this one as well as the earlier shot. Do you take these shots on a Conservation area or Nature Reserve at Lake Martin? The closest I've been to this type of thing was a couple of times in Florida and in South Carolina near Hilton Head Island. Andre
