Janet, this is what I love most about what you do. The clever use of light, dof and tones... Not to mention your ability to capture the children at the most delightful moments! Your work deserves a hell of a lot more recognition. I kid you not. The "Flycatcher" too, is truly an amazing capture. Right place, right time, right skills.
And on that note, I'm going to ask a teeny tiny favour of you. My neice is an aspiring model and she's asked me to take some photos. Not headshots as such (as her agency has already done these), but she'd like something soft and natural to add to her portfolio. The first thing that came to mind, was your style. So here it comes; would you mind terribly, giving me a step by step run down on how you achieve your images? For example, best time of day for light, camera settings etc...
If I could get even half way to the same results as you, I'd be a very happy woman :)

This is awesome Janet. Love how the main focus is on the little guy in front. But you can still see the other two and all the fun that they are having. Tones are awesome as always. What did you do to achieve tihs particular tone?

Phew!!! I'm out of breath getting back into December!!
This is a lovely shot sweetiepie and at first sight I thought that was a bonus glimpse of you in the background, but I am older and wiser now my dear:):). Your children have all got gorgeous eyes (I just KNOW they got them from you) and the pose here is superb. I love the way you achieve these beautiful tones to your mono shots and you must pass on the recipe to me. What a great expression captured on the back marker in the shot. Hi Lily, good to hear from you again :)
I had to look this one up as it was from March and the original wasn't on the computer any more. Sorry I took so long...
I remember that I was fairly close and this is an in camera crop. I had the aperture at 3.2, shutter 1/80 and iso 320.
I struggle getting good consistant focus no matter what I set the aperture to. :(

how could you have not uploaded this one earlier?! This is one of your best shots imho. Perfect how they are staggered and create this depth! He is definitely the kind here. And your older one in the back is adding so much to the shot even though she's out of focus. Really a great shot, so full of child power! :)

I like the DOF a lot too. Sharp and clear at the front. Eyes so clear with catchlights. Beautiful kids Janet. All three.
Do you remember your aperture? I have the Canon equivalent of the same lens. Drives me crazy with lower f stops (very shallow dof).

As always great lighting Janet. I just love the DOF in this...it creates such a depth to the photo. B&W is wonderful...what do you use to convert? A lovely catch light in the eyes to put the cherry on top!!! Such a fun time you've captured...makes me smile just looking at it. Bravo as always.
