About Some few images augmenting the (everlasting) series "In the city of Lucern". I decided to try to get a very coarse grain on the images, resembling perhaps a little but the typical rastering of images on newspapers or perhaps a pointilistic look and feel. I started using ISO 400 film, pushed to 600 but most images didn't really catch what I was thinking of. Then I took one ISO 400 film whose exporing date was about 6 months ago, pushed exposure up to 600 and tried again. The results were better but still too weak in grain. Next step was to take another such an old film, widen the slit of the film drum a little bit with a screwdriver, drop it in very cold water for about an hour (expecting that perhaps some of the light sensitive combounds would be washed out), let it dry for some days, and use it for the shots with a push up to 600 again and with one stop of underexposure. The results were pretty much like what I wished, especially on the three images that I post here. The heavy clouds of the storm on that day seem to also play an important role for that. (Note how the grain gets reduced on the few highlights on the sky.) Actually I am also quite amazed about the still available details and good contours.

I try to examine the possibilities in some methodical way, and so I would be very glad for any hint about causes and results. Any comment would be very welcome.

It was not only high sensitivity but also a push up, and special treatment of film, Gustavo. I used an expired film and I also put it into water and let it dry bevor the shot.

Thanks a lot for the nice detailed comment.

Thank you very much, Dave!

The upcoming storm was my good luck here.

Cheers!

A very atmospheric and moody result from both the grain and lighting, Nick!
