Thanks John, I'm glad you like it. Not many people would be able to recognize that they were mostly Subarus. That yellow one on the left, going over the bridge is actually the only one that doesn't quite belong. Mostly because of it being in an older, more amature class. It isn't an Audi exactly, but a 1981 vw Scirroco. Unless VW branded that car as an Audi in Europe? I suppose it's possible because they did it with a few other models. I used to own a 1982 VW Scirroco. I loved it. That's why I included this old one in the montage. Andre

Thanks Jon. I was surprised by the Usefilm's staff recognition of this one too. I'm always saying that Autosports shots don't attract a lot of attention here. So, I'm very pleased to see this one do well.
You have a great Christmas week and a Happy New Year too Jon! Andre

Yes, of course, Andre! I guess that it makes things more personal. Some perfect camera as it comes out of the box could be the camera of just about anybody. But scratches and similar make them to something special, though there are pressumably millions of the same camera in the hands of all the other people. Such things tell a much more personal story to us.

Hi Nick, It is funny how we can eventually put value on our little dents and scratches. I remember when I absent mindedly knocked my Nikkormat FTN and put a small dent in the meter housing. I was absolutely furious at the time. I was only 19 and it was to date, my most expensive purchase. Now when I see that dent, it is like a reminder to be careful, a part of my life. It is now unmistakably "My Camera" :) Andre

That must be the case, Andre, since anything "perfect" might be "perfect" but not with that kind of history behind it that provides the necessary character. A nee and shining something can never have the meaning that something has for us when the "dents and scratches" tell their stories. It's impossible for me to see my old T90 and not to remember not only the camera itself but all the small stories that it is connected to.
Cheers,
Nick

Yes Nick, The manitou idea is interesting. I guess it's like the life of inanimate objects become infected with spirits that have meaning to people. A good example is a child's teddy bear. Every rip and stain tells a story that gives the toy character. The memories come flooding back upon discovery of these toys years later. I think it is also one reason why classic cars are worth more when left in original condition, without restoration. Again, every dent and scratch tells a story. Andre

I'll be waiting unpatiently until I see you on a jump, Andre! ;-)
But considering some few very special things, I guess you are absolutely right. There are things that we simply have, and there are things that... I don't know how to name it! It's much more than plain "having" them. Like for example your bike. I can really understand you when you say that you were either riding or rebuilding it, since I do the same with such things like my guitar, or even some old calculators. (Yes, calculators! ;-))
I guess that such things have their own character or even personality to us. Well, of course it is *we* that personify them, but I think that this doesn't really matter, as long as we perceive them almost as living beings, as friends, or even more perhaps. Of course they will get on our nervous too, like all real friends do. ;-)
Or perhaps that kind of idea of native Americans about a "manitou" that every thing has is at the end not so stupid at all, considering not really what something is for itself, but rather what it means to us.
Cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick, I can understand the passion that people have for that kind of motorcycle. I only owned mine for about 2 years. I did not ride it competitively. The whole time I owned it, the bike and I hate a love/hate relationship :) If I wasn't riding it, I was rebuilding it :) I will dig up some old snapshots and attach them later. Or if I can find one suitable, I'll post one. Andre

Wow, Andre was a motocross biker! That I name interesting news about your previous crazy life, which you hid so well until now! ;-)
Did you know that Bultaco is almost a cult in Switzerland? I don't know about other countries but some people around here would sell even their clothes but not their Bultaco.
Any chances to see some of those old photos some day? With you on the bike of course, taking yet another vertical hindrance! ;-)
Cheers!

Thanks Nick, I like Motocross too! I have a few old images from the early seventies of club motocross racing in the local area. I used to own a 250 Bultaco myself. Not a motocross version, but the ISDT (International Six Day Trial) Matador. I didn't compete myself but just used to take the bike to trails and quarries where tracks were set up. The good old days, when I was still to crazy to know better :) Andre

Yes, I think that this variety much better represents the amount of impressions that flood one's mind, Andre. I guess that our brain (again that good old guy! ;-)) doesn't use any kind of strict chronological consideration of such views. It is able to reconstruct chronology but it works in a much more free way and connects this to that, and the like. That's perhaps why memories "fly around our heads", who knows.
It is a pity that more and more interest goes to exactly those kind of sports (and also other things) where most of the glamorous "VIPs" can be found. But I guess that it also heas to do with the rather glamorous attitudes of our days - if it glitters then it is gold, you know. So indeed variety will help, but I guess that the interest will not achieve the great levels of, say, tennis. Anyway, when it comes to rally I could just sit and look the whole day long. Same goes for motocross too. It might be always "the same car or bike" but if you look closer you see that it isn't really the same. On such uneven roads any deviation to the left or to the right leads to some completely different situation, which in turn creates a completely different behavior of the car, different motion, and the like. Perhaps it os that kind of being aware for the details that makes up for any kind of understanding?
Cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick, Thanks for all your support! I do find that maybe this is one way to create some intrest in a sport of this kind. Variety is the key, I think. I even noticed that I appreciated my own set of images from any event when I view them as a random slideshow rather than in boring chronological order. That might not be the easiest way to explain them to friends, however it can at least stop the boredom. I could watch cars go by all day long at the same corner... however most people will get bored after two or three. Andre

Hey, and now it's also a DoD! Great, I say! And that without the need for naked girls on the cars! ;-)
You hit the nail on its head, Andre! Indeed they are "greatest hits". They say a story of something that happened in some kind of résumé. Its something like a visible collection of all the views and sights in memory, I guess.
Have much fun while doing the second collage, and just take your time with it. Good things need time.

Thanks Andrzej, I was quite surprised to see those awards show up. It's nice to get them, I won't complain. I like the way this one came out. Thanks Nick, I'm glad this little collection of images had that effect on you as a viewer. I was trying to put it together to convey a nice relaxed, good time, club atmosphere. Kind of a fun day outdoors sort of thing. It seems like you got that message. I like your idea of doing the same sort of image with bits and pieces of more aggressive images. Maybe a few close-ups with some motion blur. Spinning wheels with mud and snow flying. Odd angles would of course enhance the excitment factor. I might just try that. Andre

A very nice collection of moments of that race that gives a good impression of the general atmosphere, when many people concentrate in order to partcipate in something of common interest. The collection has a very positive feel, and also conveys that kind of shared enthusiasm and happiness to be there. It has something of a documentary also, much like collections of smaller images that we see on magazines.
Andre, any idea about perhaps making also one with the images rotated and partially covering each other in a some less regular look? I guess it could enhance that look of many singular moments of the fast moving cars.
Nick
