Roger,
I know you're using Opera as your preferred browser, but is it also your default browser, or does clicking on the "Reply to" link open Internet Explorer (or any other browser)? If that's the case, you need to login again.
I'm using Opera too, but on a Mac, and I only experience that when Opera is not the default browser...
Cheers,
Hugo

Thanks for responding Hugo. I am aware that when I change browsers the cookies have to be rewritten. It's not that. Opera is my preferred browser, my default browser and my mail program. {g} As you can see, I quite like it! My problem is not so much that I am asked to log in again (that's a security issue, and I may well have been inactive for long enough to have been dropped). What I object to is not getting where I wanted to go AFTER detouring through a log-in procedure. I have taught Opera to cycle all the graphic passwords that Usefilm uses, so signing on is just a couple of clicks... No big deal.

Check the year on your pc and let me know what it says, it should not do that.

Roger, it is not really a bug, it was never written in to the login script. It is something that should probably be done just to simplify things. Al has nothing to do with the date.
Roger, as long as you do not log in from another computer, and as long as you do not clear your cookies then your login status should remain active. If you do either you will be asked to login again when trying to go to a member protected area of the site. The expiration period is several months I believe so it should not be timing out.

Al, the year on my computer at the office is 2006 (I'm at the office now). But I see that Phil thinks it's not that...

Thank you, Phil. That gives me some things to look out for. In fact I access Usefilm regularly from two computers, home and office. It may just be that I am checking E-mails from Usefilm with links to replies mostly after having moved from home to office or vice versa.
I do think that it would be a good idea to have Usefilm allow login to be a step on the way towards completing the intention of the login. i.e., if I am logging in to reply to a posting in the forums, as I am here, it would be convenient to have Usefilm allow me to proceed, instead of putting me back to square one.
I'll also have a look to see if I have any "clear cookies" settings in Opera activated. I did notice early this morning at home that Usefilm still regarded me as logged in from the weekend.

Two further morcels of information that may help with this "frequent log-in" problem. There seems to be a slight difference in behaviour between my office computer and my home computer. On one of them, Usefilm seems to think that accesses from within the MAIL part of Opera are from a different browser than the BROWSER part of Opera. So I get asked to sign on again. With the other computer, this doesn't happen. There is also a difference with regard to those blankety blank text ads. At home, they have virtually disappeared from under the navigation bar on image pages, so I can actually use the navigation pulldowns. At the office, they appear almost everywhere, and prevent me using the navigation. To go to most areas of the site I have to go back first to MyUsefilm, which is blessedly free of the bloody things, and then pull down the appropriate nav menu.
This suggests to me what will be, I suspect, very welcome news to you, that this is a computer-related or software-related phenomenon. It is a fact that I am using different versions of Opera on the two computers, and two different OS (Windows 2000-J at home and XP-J at the Office--a newer computer).
The first thing I will do is find out whether it is the newer or older version of Opera that has these abominable text ads obscuring everything. If it is the older one, I will obviously upgrade PDQ. I'll keep you informed.
