  Q. canon manual FD lens
Rick Page
Asked by Rick Page    (K=5242) on 6/1/2003
Is there a way to mount my old Canon FD lenes on a new EOS digital camera. I thought about trading off almost all the old manual lens and a AE-1P when I get a new EOS digital in July.
Thanks to all,
RICK

There is a very expensive (around $300 usually) and hard to find adapter made by Canon for this purpose. It only works with longer lenses due to its protruding front elements (like the FD Extender 1.4X-A), and it also acts as a 1.2X extender.

There is a less expensive Canon FD-EOS macro adapter with no optics that will work with any lens, but it will prevent focus to infinity.

There are some cheaper aftermarket adapters, and I believe that some work with any lens, but the optics may leave something to be desired.

Unless you have some high-end big glass to justify hunting down that FD-EOS adapter, you're probably better off continuing with your FD system and scanning film you want to digitize as you build your EOS system.

David knows more than I, but I as an avid user of Canon fd lenses, I think you will be better off scanning your film and sticking with your lenses within the fd system. I've heard about quality loss with the adapters he mentioned, and the digital eos - which I've just moved to as well, works with ef lenses that have been around for a while. Check out ebay for cheaper finds for all sorts of these lenses, as there are a bundle to choose from all the time.
