  Q. Selecting Color Film

Asked by Antonio Cardoso    (K=479) on 5/9/2003
I read the excellent Nanette Staph's Article on selecting color film which confirms that Negative Color Films have lower contrast and larger exposure lattitude than comparable Reversal Color Films.
Is it so right to shoot preferably on negative material, if we just want to produce high quality scanned digital images for PS editing and digital printing?

Not at all. You'll find that most serious photographers drift towards slidefilm for colour because they can reproduce colours far more accurately and vibrantly.
Also, when done properly, scanned slides often show a lot less noise/grain as compared to scanned negatives (though the software supplied with most scanners isn't properly callibrated out of the box for slides).

You will need to be more careful about exposure because of the smaller exposure lattitude of course.
