  Q. uploading pictures

Asked by Andrew George    (K=343) on 2/25/2009
Ok, so I shoot in raw, I then have to make the picture photoshop friendly so now my image has ".tiff" or ".psp". ounce i've fixed up the picture i do "save as" for ."jpg.tiff" or ".jpg.psp" i then delete the tiff or the psp so its just jpg. i try to upload this picture but it never works.

am i doing something wrong and if so how can i fix it.

I've now found out that what I was doing wasn't right. So now my situation is this: I shoot in raw but can't get the images to open in Photoshop. I used another program to turn the photo into a .psd (not .psp like I said above) so that i could open the image in Photoshop. From this format I can't seem to make the image into a .jpg so I can upload it. Can anyone help me figure out how to be able to upload my raw images? I use a Mac in case that helps.

Hi Andrew

First off, I'm not sure why you can't open your RAW files in PS. What version of PS are you using? If you are using a recent version (eg. CS3/CS4) then RAW files should open automatically in the Camera Raw sub-program. If you are using an older version, maybe you need the appropriate plug-in for your particular RAW type (eg. Canon, Nikon etc).

Then, to convert to JPG, go to "File>Save for web and devices..." At least, that's what you can do in CS3. Alternatively you could set the format type in the "Save image" dialogue in Camera Raw.

Hope this helps, but if you need more info let me know.

AJ

Hi AJ
thanks for your reply. i'm hoping to try your suggestion soon. I am using PS CS. How do I go about fixing my plug-in for my Canon 30D? Where do I go to set the format type in the "Save image" dialogue in Camera Raw?
Andrew

Andrew

You say you are using PS CS. CS2? CS3? CS4?

In Camera Raw there's a box entitled "format type" towards the bottom of the "Save image" dialogue.

I'm sure I can help you sort this, but perhaps it's best to do it outside the UF forum. If you like you can go to one of my recent Usefilm images - they have a link to my website in the "about". Go there, click on "Contact" then "Other enquiries". Let me know how to contact you - Skype would be best then I could talk you through it - and I'll take it from there.

AJ
