Photography Forum: Digital Photography Q&A Forum:
  Q. What photos do you most like taking with a digital SLR camera?

Asked by G Baxter    (K=20) on 9/2/2006
As I'm looking to purchase possibly a Nikon digital SLR camera, what photos do you personally most like taking (or what one/s do you find turn out much better) on a digital SLR camera and please say why.

If anyone can provide links, to either their own web page/s, or that of someone else's, showing images taken with digital SLR cameras,
that'd be helpful as well.

Hi G.

I think that question is pretty impossible to answer. I guess every photographer has his / her favourite subject, and if that subject was previously shot on film, it'll be shot again when the switch to digital is made.

I'd say the shots that generally turn out better are the ones you would normally not even think about taking with film, as a digital snap doesn't cost you anything. In other words, with digital photography, the theshold to shoot the more unusual stuff, try out new things and experiment is lower.

Although I do believe that's a good thing in improving your skills and boosting the creativity, it's also one of it's major pitfalls. As with film, a badly exposed photo will also be a badly exposed photo with digital. And as "snapping away" with digital is relatively easy, the chances of careless handling of the camera settings increase, at first increasing the rate of poorly exposed photos. That'll cost you a few "kodak moments" at first...

Just browse around on UF, you'll find out for yourself what people are shooting with a digital camera.

Cheers,

Hugo

On flikr you can search photos by camera which may be helpful. I like my D50 for the random kind of stuff I do. I work for my colleges newspaper as a photographer so I wind up doing sports and meetings and crap with it and it works great. But I can also take it out in the woods with me and do some bird and bug watching. I even took it down a mile into a cave in Arkansas! Though if you do that then bring a standard lens or something shorter than the kit lens as it isnt really meant for that low light of a situation. Im just getting to putting pictures up, and all of mine will be with a D50 so if you wait a few more days to buy you can see mine.

LoL! Keep an eye on dates in these strings Chris. This question was asked September 2nd - Last year. Doubt anybody would STILL be waiting but, if so, I doubt a few days would matter either! :)

Doyle I <~~~~~

especially since the person who originally asked that question has never been back since asking that question over a year ago :)
