may be you would be interested in places around Siena in Toscana which can be enjoyed especially by a car avoiding the highway; around venice you can choose to visit Chioggia, may be by ferry from venice too; when in rome you can choose to have a look to a south placed Sperlonga near Gaeta and watching the sea roads around there
have a nice trip! :)

If that Toscana is anywhere near where Paolo Pagnini, on this site, has been taking photos, that seems like a place I'd head for as soon as I cleared customs.

First thing I would do is get Rick Steves Travel book on Italy and go to his wbsite www.ricksteves.com. One of the best overlooked area's is the Cinque Terre on the upper west coast of Italy. Stay in the town of La Spezia ( there are 2 hotels DOWN from the train station - about a 2 or 3 minute walk. The little simple restaurant next to one of the hotel's ,across the street from the other - I think it's called Roma, has some of the best food I've EVER had in Italy - run by an entire family from Naples, great people- and I've been from the top to Sicily many times) Take the "milk train" - about 20 minutes - to the 5 different little villages along the coast. it's all in the Rick Steves book. Hope you have a good time and WATCH YOUR BELONGINGS (especially in Rome). Oh, Also check out Santa Margurita on the coast between Pisa and Genoa - can take a day trip to Portofino from there. Great places for Photography.Hope you haven't left yet. Bon Voyage, Mark
