Apparently they sold their digital SLR business to Sony, so hopefully we will still get some nice new digicams with Minolta AF mount in the future...

Wow...surprising, but I have to say not shocking.
I'm kind of amazed that they could do an analysis to determine that they had no chance of competition over the next five years, to the point where they wouldn't even bother trying...so if all consumer photographic products are being scrapped, I'm assuming they'll concentrate on their business end - prepress film for burning plates, imagesetters, chemical fixers and developers, etc? I can't imagine they would be scrapping that as well...

no, they're getting out of photography completely. I assume they're going to focus fully on their copier and medical imaging divisions.

It is not a complete withdrawal... In their press release KM states: 'Except for digital SLR cameras and interchangeable lenses produced for Sony'. So there is still hope for us Minolta fans.
