Q. ScanJet 6300C problem

My 6300C has been working just fine until today. It seems that the scanning software running on Windows XP Home all of a sudden can't find the scanner (hardware). I tried re-install. The install wizard says the scanning software is installed properly, but there is no USB port to connect to. Well the USB ports are still working for other devices, such as memory card readers etc.. Anyone else run into this problem? I tried searching usenet, but didn't find out what I need to know. Flatbeds are fairly inexpensive, maybe I should just go buy a new one. Not HP this time!

I bought a new scanner.
HP 4070
Easy to install, ... works!
