  Q. Colors vary per program?

Asked by Marcel Dijkinga    (K=164) on 4/3/2005
I use photoshop CS on a windows XP machine. My monitor is calibrated with Gretach.

When I edit a picture in PS CS I am satisfied with the colors. But when I see it in another program, for instance a foto of mine on usefilm in Internet Explorer, the colors have faded. They Are less saturated.

Can anyone explane this phenomenon? And what can I do about it?

Thanks for your help!

Marcel

Different programs use different colour profiles. This means they interpret the colour data in image files differently, potentially leading to differences in display.

You can (sometimes, depends on the program) prevent this by having all programs use the same colour profile but this of course does not guarantee that your images will look like you want them to on other devices.

One of the problems of digital imagery, which is not present with slides :)
