Q. Best Monitor for digital imaging?

Hello, everyone!
After a bit of a hiatus because of some work changes, I'm back to working on my photography as much as possible. yay!
At any rate, as part of that, I'm putting together a new "digital imaging workstation" for myself, and I am in process of picking out a new monitor. I'm currently working on a very old NEC that is starting to wear at the edges.
After surfing around, I can find plenty of reviews of monitors for gaming purposes, but none that specifically focus on digital imaging (with the exception of the Sony Artisan, which is WAY out of my price range).
So, I'm asking: What's the best monitor for our purposes? (purposes being digital imaging and photshop editing). I'm thinking CRT, as I'm still not thinking that LCD monitors are the way to go, outside the Apple Cinema Displays, which are also a bit out of my price range. Keep in mind I'm going to be attaching this new monitor to a workstation-class video card (FireGL or equivalent), so I'd like to keep the bill to <$500.

In my search for a monitor that is great for photography/graphic purposes I found a popular one with an affordable price to be ViewSonic. There seems to be a lot of great reviews for its performance. Viewsonic has a graphic series monitor, which is the one I purchased. I paid right around $300 for a 19 inch monitor and have been extremely happy with it so far. Hope this helps a little and good luck!

Both CRT and LCD are ideal for digital imaging. The only time the LCD falls over is if a high refresh is needed. LCD's are therefore useless for playing games.
But if you only use your pc for editing pictures, wor processing, internet browsing and not to play games the LCD would be good enough (+ the added advantage of a smaller footprint & weight !!).
However, an 18" plasma would cost quite a bit!
Size wise, the plasma has a larger screen than the CRT. An 18" plasma has a larger display than a 19" CRT.

I'd head over to ShootSmarter.com and read why they recommend the LaCie Electron Blue IV monitors.

I have the 22-inch, which is a bit out of your budget. The 19-inch one is well within what you're willing to pay. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
The only other monitor that compares is Sony's Artisan monitor (at double the cost of the 22" model).

CRT monitors still hold the advantage in regards to color purity and quality. LCD monitors have again made great improvements here, and now offer bold, brilliant colors in many cases. The best LCD monitors are very good, and the average user would be hard pressed to note the difference for basic computing use.
The gamers needs have been adequately addressed as the LCD monitors available in the market have very fast response times ? as low as 12 ms and getting better. These response times are fast enough to even satisfy die hard gamers who want the best and are not willing to compromise.

I have the NEC MultiSync LCD 1765 (17 inch) and anyone who's even seen it is pretty amazed by the lack of glare and wonderful clarity.
Was $500+ last year, but worth a look.
The best I've seen. JMHO
