  Q. Choosing a good Color Monitor

Asked by Antonio Cardoso    (K=479) on 6/22/2003
Putting apart the price and footprint issues, would I be better served with a top grade 21 inch CRT monitor or with a Top grade 21 inch TFT-LCD monitor of the same size.
I refer to image quality, resolution capabilities, etc.
Antonio Cardoso

Antonio,

The LCD will be sharper overall and the colors easiest to correct. but the difference will be minimal at best. I am using a 21" pro monitor and I am very plesed with it once I got everything calibrated which must be done with any monitor. The LCD had not been perfected yet and the CRT can't go any further so it's a tough call.

If your objective is to color proof prints on your monitor, a CRT monitor would be your best bet. Tere are still many issues reguarding accurate color calibration of LCD monitors, and many of the people I know who use them have a second CRT monitor to set tone and color.

I hope this helps,

Mike

I would recommend any of the Lacie Electron Blue Monitors, used by graphic professionals becasuse of their color clarity and more, it's a CRT and the prices have come down recently. You can search for more info easily through Google.

I would not even consider the LCD, not a good choice graphics work period, (great for Word, or Excel) very hard to calibrate or profile the monitor, severely limits color management capabilities. I want what I see on the screen to be what comes out of my printer (epson 2200), and that's totally posible and relatively easy with a good CRT. I recommend the NEC MultiSync FE1250, Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 22in, or the Lacie, mentioned in the post above, all three use the exact same Mitsubishi CRT. But I believe the Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 22in, has the best features of the 3. And the NEC, is the most bang for the buck. The 22in of screen real estate is a great asset in PS. Regards, Mark
