  Q. Calibration of zone system via printing house

Asked by terry oneill    (K=0) on 4/1/2005
Not having any darkroom equipment, I am wondering about performing a test in order to determine the latitude of my film, so as to determine zone 2 from density readings obtained from the developer/printing house and determine the H&D curve thus calibrate my system to a degree. The problem is as I don?t develop or print film myself I?m wondering is it right to assume that the development and printing of my pictures via a printing company can be to be considered to not produce a ?noticeable? variation in print value assuming I perform these tests and take photos with film from the same batch?

Using the zone system requires processing and printing your own materials.

You can establish your personal EI (Exposure Index) and therefore ensure you meter accurately and get shadow details on the neg when you want them.
