  Photography Forum: Darkroom Techniques Forum:
  Q. Omega B-600

Asked by Ken Daniel    (K=3) on 11/19/2004
I am getting back into B&W darkroom work after a 10 year absence. I purchased an Omega B-600 enlarger at a very cheap price. After looking through multiple forums and a few web searches, I can't find many references to this enlarger. Was it not popular in its day or is it so old that most have fallen apart? My unit is still solid after tightening a few screws but I am interested in the opinions of the experienced..thanx

Uh Oh, this can't be good, 2 days and no comments. Better put a new enlarger on my Christmas list

g'day Ken, why do need such reassurance? does the equipment work and perform as you require? do you actually want to make prints or get pats on the back for owning something 'good'?

 Ken Daniel   (K=3) - Comment Date 11/22/2004
Nope, reassurance was the last thing on my mind, I was only asking if there were any problems with the B600 or is there a reason that it does not seem to be popular.

Thanks Ann, I had already visited Classic Enlargers but missed the Forum section. I went back found all of the answers I needed and more. The B600 is simply a bottom of the line enlarger that works well with a good lens and has no snakes hidden anywhere.

hey Ken,

I own a B-600 enlarger and it hasn't let me down yet. the pictures I made on it came out excellent. i don't really notice a difference in the quality of the photos i made on it from the pictures I made with my school enlargers. i don't know if it was popular or not in it's days, it's meant for people who want to set up darkrooms at home. plus i got mine for under $30 so i can't really complain about the quality. :)

the most important thing is to make good negatives.

Heavy duty expensive enlargers are made that way for people who use them every day all day long, or in the case of schools, many different people all using the same equipment is very hard on that equipment.

Inexpensive enlargers basically work fine, they are build for occasionally use usually by one person.

If the enlarger is in alinement, has a high quailty lens, no one can tell what type of enlarger was made to use to make that image
