Sean, you can get a mint El Nikkor 50mm 2.8 for 99 bux or so on ebay. If you have the few bucks to splurge, I hear the rodendstocks are pretty nice. I personally use a Nikkor 50mm 2.8 for 35mm negatives and a Nikkor 80mm 2.8 for medium format.

You can get an EL-Nikkor 50 used for even less than that, or a Schneider Componon-S or a Rodagon, all of which are great lenses. You might even find an Apo-Rodagon 50/2.8 or Apo-Componon for around $200, which is as good as it gets. With lots of people going digital, there is some excellent darkroom equipment going for fire-sale prices.
Check your enlarger alignment first. Take a piece of exposed developed film that is completely black (part of a leader is good for this) and scratch an "X" in the center and in each corner with a needle. Put it in your negative carrier, and see if you can adjust your enlarger's alignment so that all four corners are sharp. Then see how far you have to stop down with your current lens to get the corners as sharp as the center (probably f:8 or f:11 with the lens you've mentioned).

Thanks! I think I'll go for the El-Nikkor, However, how am I to know if it will fit or not?

Almost any modern enlarging lens from 40mm-150mm will have 39mm (Leica) thread, so you should have no problem in that regard.

I just bought a Schneider 50mm/f:1:4 Companon on E-bay for around $50...when it arrived, although it's about minty clean, the threads are only about 2/3 the diameter of my EL-Nikkor! Is this an older standard? I'll have to get another lens board for my old Omega D2. (Might want to keep this in mind when YOU buy a lens!) ...Any thoughts on the smaller Schneider thread?
