  Q. Old vintage style
Chris Marsh
Asked by Chris Marsh    (K=210) on 2/8/2006
I am doing a photography progect based on VINTAGE, and I would like to know if anyone has any recommendatins on how to make pictures look about 50 - 70 years old. Are there any techniques to help recreate the affect.

One option is to tone prints in black tea or coffee.

What's happening here? See this identical question, posed on the same day back in February:

hi,just so ya know, sometimes members ask the same question more than once in different forum categories...this particular one was answered some time back here:http://www.usefilm.com/Photo_Forum/1/1012112/
I never saw his vintage work after that and no activity from him at UF for some time now...just thought you should know.

I am still around, but I havn't been active as I'm in the middle of my exams and been revising. Unfortunatley all your tips were a bit too late as my project finished at the end of March, but I did try the tea during my project and found it to be effective. I did post a similar article in the Photography techniques forum asking for Vintage style techniques for photography.

Caustic soda for cheap n nasty sepia.

Intensifiers for extra grain.
cup your hands round lens to make a nice vinginette in enlarger.
or cut a nice shape and hold partway in image beam in enlarger whilst slightly moving
Experimenting with developing is where the fun is.

And its so much more fun then photoshop.
not that i hate photoshop its just less fun then hands on stuff.

Chris. You might like to have a look at this site http://www.unblinkingeye.com/

I'm based in West Yorkshire and you are?

Chris. I have no idea how I warrant a USA flag. In fact I am quite offended but I really do live in West Yorkshire England

That's more like it. There could well have been a diplomatic incident.
