I use a Manfrotto 3221W with a Manfrotto 3030 head on it. This holds my Hassy, Kiev and now my Pentax medium format stuff with no problems.

You need to choose a head that supports your maximum weight of camera, and a tripod that support the combined weight of the camera and the head.
All else is down to your preferences, budget, and the intended use of the equipment (travel, macro, studio, and so on.)
Personally I have a Manfrotto 443 carbon fibre legs, with added spike/pad feet, and a Magnesium 3-way head with detachable plate. It carries my Bronica RF645 easily, and should cope with anything up to 3KG in weight. I can also change the head if I want. The centre column can be reversed, but not put in sideways.

The heaviest tripod you can carry is the best for every camera. A good quality is needed to use it outside in water , mud etc. I use GITZO 356 with a LINHOF ballhead. The head is important as the tripod. Jan

I agree that the ballhead is as important as the tripod itself. If you have the ability to go to a good camera shop, test the heads and find one that is most comfortable for you. The head has to be able to support your camera and be effortless to use.
I use a Manfrotto 3021 tripod with a Bogen 3265 pistol grip ballhead. It supports a Pentax 67 very nicely, the ballhead took some getting use to.

Ok so I have now bought a Uni-loc tripod, but now need to find what is the best, most usable head for a bronica/hassleblad style setup.
