  Q. Mamiya 645E problem :(

Asked by Ivan Bogachev    (K=25) on 8/23/2009
Hello, everybody !
Got a problem, that is killing my last days of vocation

A mounth ago I purchased Mamiya 645E from Ebay.
Everything worked perfectly, but yesterday at almost the last frame of the testing film, shutter went up and didn't go down.
After I took the battery out and put it back and shutter went down!
I tried several times with different shutter speed, no result - shutter goes up and goes down only when you took out the battery and put it back.
Also the indicating lights of the finder are dead :(
Tried new battery - useless.
So may be someone got an idea, what could have happend and what shell I do ?
Actually I'm in a kind за panic now, because two mouths ago suddenly my Nikon D70's shutter died.
Thanks to all.

I've had the exact same problem a couple months ago. I have the RZ67 series, and I know your anguish with this issue. Although you placed new batteries in the camera, I would replace them again with a totally different set that is fresh. It could be that the batteries you purchased new were not good, as was the case for me. If there are any switches for "Timed" exposures on your camera or lens, make sure that the switch is to the "normal" position (It is marked "T" and "N". On the RZ camera lenses, this will lock the shutter open during exposure until the switch is physically closed. If the 645 has the shutter built into the lens, you might try swapping the lens with another if you have one to see if the problem persists. Again, I don't know anything about the 645s, but assuming there are likely to have similarities since it is a Mamiya.

I hope this helps.......... Mike

Thanks for your answer, Mike!
IUnfortunally it seems that batteries are alright (I checked them with the tester - they are pretty alive). Also checked all the switches and all variations of shutter speeds, mods and everything Also I tried without lens (in Mamiya 645E the shutter built in camera) and it always goes just the same.
I think that may be problem is somewhere in elctric contacs or circuits, because the exposure meter doesn't work and the shutter goes down only when I took out and place back a battery.
Today will try to bring it to a local service shop (not Mamiya service shop of course (we don't have them )
Thank you again, Mike !
