  Q. They can't BAN subway photography...CAN they?
Paul Lara
Asked by Paul Lara   Donor  (K=88111) on 6/2/2005
In order to 'keep us safer', New York's Metropolitan Transit Authority is proposing a total ban on subway photography (except for credentialed press). Given that there's cameras now in cell phones, PDA's, iPods and others, and they would have to be banned too. Otherwise, this will just be hurting tourists and legitimate photographers:

Here is a link with MTA to register a protest! (you do not have to be a New York resident to file a protest)

FYI: iPods don't have cameras in them. You can download photos into an iPod/iPhoto but that is it.

Yes, I suppose they could thogh I think the idea is crazy. Believe it or not, some bleeding hearts STILL blame us for the death of Princess Diana. I want to see any city ban Cell phones. You could ban sex easier ( not on subway of course)
What comes next? Banning people whom wear coats in Winter time. My advice " To hell with them-shoot anyway."

Yes, Chuck, I always feel its better to ask for forgiveness than for permission!

Unless something is happening AGAIN that is old news [goes back the better part of a year] Chuck. The latest info I have seen is that they have abandoned the idea in NYC.

OTOH, the New Jersey Transit Authority does have a ban in place and AFAIK they do enforce it.

Sorry, I meant to address that to you Paul... not to Chuck specifically.

Thanks for reply. Well, it is nice to think that New Jersey would have banned much of subway work by Walker Evans and Robert Frank.
I am attaching a grafetti photo taken in Athens, Ga. It is not a statement on my part. But even Athens, a small city , with about 150, oo students (UGA) can not ban "Artists" of this caliber

Bush Rocks!!!
