  Q. Tripod for Travel
Nicole Marcisz
Asked by Nicole Marcisz    (K=10268) on 1/28/2005
I would like some tips on a travel tripod to get. I'm looking for the lightest possible but sturdy enough to depend on. I have a Canon Rebel 2000-which is a pretty light camera. I already have great tripod with carry case but the darn thing is a real beast to travel with when hiking etc. And it doesn't fit in a backpack easily. So this is why I want to get another tripod for traveling and hiking with. Thanks for any help on this!
Cheers,
Nicole

Whats the budget like ?
Sounds like a case for a carbon fibre tripod but they are very dear.
Also try a lighter head for your current one it may be cheaper.

well, I don't really want to spend more than $70 for it. if that is possible.
getting a different head for mine would not work, as it is the whole tripod that is the pain.

Bogen or Manfroto has a very sturdy tripod. I believe that it is the 3001. Very sturdy, and will fit in a travel bag. I should know; I caried one around Asia for 7 months and it as a charm to use.
The only thing is that you have to buy the tripod head which is extra, but it's not that much. I reccomend the ball head triangular plate. It's much sturdier and works better then the smaller square plate.
if you want to save money, look in any photo magazine and find the B & H camera store ads. You'll be able to save 1/3 or more. It may cost about $100, bt it may be the best $100 that you spend; you want something that is light BUT sturdy.

If you have any questions feel free to write and I'll give the exact model number and the best ball head. Nothing fancy, just dependable and works well when you need it.

Does anyone use the Cullmann Touring Set including Mini-Tripod, Clamp, Spike, Woodscrew & Suction Mount? I found it on B&H and Adorama. Sounds like a nice travel set.
