  Q. Filter to change from color to B/W

Asked by Andew Gondokusumo    (K=833) on 12/7/2004
Is there any filter out there that I can mount it in front of my lens for D 70 and turned the color shot into black and white?

Thanx - Andrew

you might post this on the digital form for more infomration as i am not a serious digital user, but even on my little point and shoot i am viewing and filing in black and white rather than color as that is what i do )B&W). I can't believe that a high end comera as the D70 can't be programmed to do the same. CHeck you instruction booklet probably somewhere under formating.

Unfortunately, Ann is wrong - the higher end digital cameras don't typically include a black and white mode.

I'm not aware of a filter that can be used for this purpose, but typically the conversion is made after the fact in your processing software. The easiest mode is to desaturate, but the results are generally flat. You can google for several excellent tutorials on how to do this.

There are no filters that will turn your digicam into a black and white camera.
You'd need to exchange the sensor for another one to do that, which is not something all but the most expensive MF and LF digital backs make possible.

So you'll have to do it all afterwards in your photoprocessing software, which never creates the same quality BW images you get from film.

how strange, one would think the high end camera would give one more options. But as i said, digital is not my thing, and i put my little point and shoot in black and white mode as that is the way i think.
