Q. Polarizers on digital

Hi all,
I have a Fuji S7000 which is giving muddy results when used with a polarizer (Hoya). The filter works perfectly on film (mainly Velvia 50). I can make corrections in photoshop to get that polarized sky look back, but I'd prefer not to.
Has anyone ever experienced this? For an example of what I mean, go to www.castleimages.com.au/fineart/sign.htm. both images are straight camera files, the one on the right is the polarised image.

digital cameras seem to prefer circular polarizing filters vs linear polarizers. it looks to me like the issue here is one of color balance. most polarizers render a lightly cooler color temerature and if you are using a wide angle lens the problem is compounded a bit because the polarizer will have a band of ideal function and then it tapers off on both sides of that band. so you have effectively uneven color temperature across the frame. if your camera has a manual white balance, take advantage of it. if your camera is on auto white balance, then polarizers make the camera want to jump to a warmer white balance to offset the cool color cast with the polarizer, it makes the skies and cooler colors look dingy and yellowish. experiment with your white balance settings, i think that is where you will find your problem.
