  Q. Photoshop Sharpening.

For any of you who still have some difficulty sharpening effectively, even after Marcus' excellent article, I would recommend you download the photoshop plug in for sharpening available free from Fred Mirandas web site. Although it is designed for the d30 digital camera, I have used it on some scanned slides as well (you do have to tweak his settings a bit).

http://www.fredmiranda.com/Action_profilesPage/index.html

He has both an 8-bit and a 16-bit mode sharpening action. I have used both, and what he recommends if you have the cpability is to adjust levels in 16bit mode, use the 16bit sharpen action, than convert to 8 bit at the end for printing.

Basically what it does is create an edge mask and sharpen the edges only. I have found it to be easy to use and in most cases works a lot easier and better than messing around with global sharpening or unsharp mask.

Its worth a try, and its free!
