hi,Mike.....google: free photo editing software.....i use paintshop pro8 which is not only cheaper than Photoshop, but very user friendly and has extensive tools/filters/adustments...corel offers free trial downloads of paintshop (the newer versions)...you could probably score PSP 8 or 9 on ebay for under $50 USD...
regards,gayle

If you're serious about photography, I would invest in some software.

I have used Paint Shop Pro 7 for the past 6 years and love it. IMO unless someone is going to start their own photography business you don't need to spend $600 or more on Adobe Photoshop. PSP is much easier to learn (I tried several times photoshop but found it confusing) and use once you've had time to learn everything.

Or there is the Corel Draw series which is also an excellent program.

There is also GIMP (freeware) from www.gimp.org, but I'm not sure if it has a photo browser feature like PSP.

Not all software available via Torrents is licensed... however, I will respect that.

indeed, most of it is not licensed for distribution through P2P networks...
In fact the vast majority isn't, and the rest that is legal will have websites describing it and telling you how to get it.

Link to those sites instead.

I just bought Paint shop pro 8 on ebay for $33. Haven't used it yet though. Gayle recommended it and I am going to learn how to use it

I have always been working on photoshop and now photoshop cs2.

I do some work also on picture project as it is the soft ware came with my Nikon D2X, but recently and while I was in Thailand I did buy the Microsoft Digital Image Suite Version 11.

It has been recommended to me by a friend and I was any way going down to bangkok to buy my sigma lens so I thought it will be a good idea to get the 2 birds in one hand.

It comes on 2 CD'S and some how I did not like it , but many here do like working on this soft ware.

Just thought it might interesting to know about it.
All of the best

hi,Mike...did you hit "reply to gayle"?...i am not receiving forum notices of replies to me again,so just checking....
i have never replaced eye color, but played for a few minutes and now can tell you a quick way to do it....there may be better ways, but i don't know layers and advanced techniques yet....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How to color an eye on a B/W via Paintshop pro8 editing software:

1.after you have image up on the paintshop page, look at left side of screen where the tools are loaded.......go to 5th tool down which looks like either a Lasso,a rectangle,or a magic wand...choose the Lasso to "Freehand select" (draw around the eyeball)...do one eyeball at a time

2.go to ADJUST (at top of page)and click on Hue & Saturation...click on "Colorize"....because you want to add color to a B/W image,a box will pop up telling you that it must first be converted to 16 million color...hit "OK" and it automatically allows you to use the Hue and Sat. slider adjustments

3.click "OK" after you are satisfied with results which will apply the chosen color within the freehand selected eye area.....repeat for the other eye...

Always right click to remove the white dotted lines from the tools used....hope i didn't leave anything out...

Have fun using PSP8!......i no longer have the original manual, but if you do,it should help you quite a bit....i just use the Help button if i need help,or ask a more experienced user...
regards,gayle

Another thing you will need to know for PSP is that if you save your images as jpeg's you will need to switch the settings otherwise the quality is severely depleted.

When you go to save click on options in the bottom right hand corner.
My settings are:
Standard encoding
compression factor 15

That's not specific to PSP Carlen. You just need to remember that where in Photoshop higher value means higher quality, in PSP it's the other way around for some reason ;)

Well, I tried a number of products through the years. However the first time I was really happy with photo editing came with photoshop Elements. It gives you about 90% of what you can do with the full photoshop program at about 20% of the price. Before getting Elements, I found the instructions of other experienced Usefilm photographers hard to follow, since the majority of professionals use Photoshop. Since Elements and the full Photoshop program share common features, you can often use what you are told with a few minor changes. Importantly, if you do decide later to graduate to the full Photoshop program, your skills at elements will partially translate to the more advanced programs, so you are not starting from scratch again. Eventually I did progress to the full photoshop, and it was no mistake. In retrospect I should have started with Elements from the beginning.

I guess the best one would be PS CS2.
