About This was my first attempt using extension tubes. this lil fella was only about 1cm long so quite impressed with the results - found getting DOF difficult though

Just thought i'd mention that you're not the only that doesn't know what to do - i was about to get the nikon80-200 to give me a bit of working distance when i saw the nikon200 macro and then the 200macro manual focus and i've been doing my head in for the past few wekks - so if you got any advice i would really appreciate it :) guys on the forum must be getting pretty tired of me lolol!

well Jim to be honest i bought the tubes after seeing Gaubert's work because i was keeping to the minimum focussing distance with my macro and wasn't too happy. Then i found out that manually i could get in much closer and now i can't really see much difference between one and the other (compare my fly and this one) though i'm sure i'm doing something wrong - with the tubes i focus using the zoom as the focusing ring doesn't seeem to do anything???If you find out anything would appreciate you letting me know - btw the lens you mention does look awfully good!!

I missed this one. Cool bug and thanks for the tip on the video's. I want to get some extension tubes but was still considering the possibility of getting the Canon MP-E65 which goes up to 5X. I just dont know what to do:)

Thanks for your comments Den!! I've actually found that the tubes work better on manual settings - they get stuck on auto though i don't know if it's the lens or the camera!! They should come with instructions though :( so far i focus by using the zoom - the actual focusing does not seem to do much so i presume i'm doing something wrong! If you find out anything i would appreciate you letting me know.

First attempt or not SD, it is a great result and pleased you should be. I would be! These guys are so unpredictable and you don't have a lot of time to set up. Does the D70 autofocus work OK with tubes or is it better to use manual?
Den
PS Thanks for your comment on my moon shot.

Wonderful capture S.D.Holmes, the colours are beautiful and the glistening body and feet too. Yes, the DOF is the main problem but it's great here in your photo...Good capture S.D.Holmes.
Regards,
Khaled.

SD you are killing me. The glittering colour on the hairs of the moth are superb. Well done.

Very impressive! Such a beautiful butterfly (?).
Can imagine that the birds don?t even think catching this beacuse of the false warning. I mean the colours.... Excellent.

Tell me about it! The biggest problem though were the antennae - they were so long that they were really messing up the DOF as well:)

You're right about the camo, SD, too bad for the moth but lucky for you! Great colour and focus! You know the DOF is shallow when you can't get a whole moth in focus!
Dave.
