Hi Christian, Of your work, this is my favorite, replacing 'Mike's roots', which as you know I really like.
The sweeping frame angle and the simplicity of the subject matter for this composition is perfect to my eye. The fast rushing silky water resembles liquid gold. The sharpness of the branch looks fine from here......maybe you are beoming too hard on yourself & your photography, which I guess is no bad thing :)

Even if the the tree trunk is not as sharp as you wished this still is a fantastic capture.... full with movement with a nice diagonal line in the background! Beautiful!

Beautiful idea Christian, nicely executed. The flowing water matches the angle of the stick/branch and the washback really counterwieghts the whole thing. I like the simple frame with the shadow. Really nice work. Congrats Neil

this is my best explanation since the water flow, although obviously silky, in rather sharp. I guess then that it is the tree trunk shaking under the fierce water force. Just a second after the shot, it was taken away. This was a one time shot.

Hi Christian, Thanks for the info on the D70.... I use an F100 (amongst others, and I like its weigth alot, very useful in steadying the camera)
Would it be possible that the unsharpness in the branch is caused by the water running past it? I notice the wet spots, and the impact must've caused some tremors too... With a long shutterspeed, the fraction of movement of the shutter can be disregarded, I think (especially with new ones)

Hugo, I've applied the local sharpening tool along the tree trunk, otherwise...
It could also be the lens. Although a very good one indeed, at f45 and 300 mm, it must be at its lowest. It could also be a little vibration inside the camera. I've used the timer to avoid a camera movement caused by my hand, but still a 300 mm becomes a 450 equivalent, and at 1/25th of a second it would be no surprise if the mirror, or the wind, would have caused a little movement.
I feel the D70 is a great piece. The casing feels solid, as much as the F80 for instance. To really get the most of it, you would need to shoot NEF, thus to use a large capacity memory card - a 512 Megs would be a start (about 50 shots on it), and also use systematically white balance readings.

Nice shot. Thanks for the self critique. I've seen that kind of lack of defintion (but not with recognizable movement) in some of my zoomed shots and thought it was a fault of my camera.
This is regardless a high energy picture.

Very powerful shot, Christian! Excellent use of the slow shutterspeed, and a perfect dynamic composition. The sharpness in the branch looks OK to me. Still a lot of details. I don't think I would've noticed it, if you hadn't told us....
How do you like the D70? I've read many good things about it, but the only thing that worries me is the Polycarbonate housing of the body. I'm thinking of buying one.....
