Dear Dave,its the bottom line L lens from Canon, no Image stab but Ultra sonic motor for fast focussing ,sharp at f4 even at 200mm and no moving items outside the lens.Close focus is 1,2m or 4ft.A good distance not to disturb the insects.Needs manual focus for insects hiding in grass etc..To get sharp macros with reasonable dof, I set f14 with external flash.When the result is pin pin sharp,I can crop from the 15Mpx.
