About A tribute to ppdix who I will quote today: "Some people prefer the "safe" photography... Landscapes, 30 second exposures at night... Come on!. U can't mess it up like that... Mountains, cityscapes are always gonna be there, now and in 100 years. A monkey with a Polaroid can do it... Just set up a tripod and take 100 pictures until u get it right... Too easy, no skill..."

Absolute rubbish I say!!

This is fabulous. I like this kind of Photography. Maybe that's why I'm very fond of bananas ;)
Serioulsly, I also think that one has to respect every kind of Photography and photographer. You don't have to like everything. And you can't say that Studio Photography is better than Landscape Photography or viceversa. It's in the picture and the photographer's ability to make a wonderful work, no matter the equipment or style. You certainly succeeded here.
Regards

That's the thing.

and the shot is a great reflection of beauty and astonishment.

Your respect for nature is admirable.

Great composition and beautiful light Excellent image Peta! I tend to agree with you on landscapes - not so easy to capture the real essence of a place - here you dit it very well! Lovely balnce in this shot!

Peta,

Fantastic Landscape. I Love the reflections and the symmetry of the shot. Very well seen and taken.

Now about the ppdix quote.... I think that a Landscape Photographer needs to quicker on thier feet and adapt to the ever changing Lighting conditions and have the ability to understand what is going on around them. Photographers who shoot in a studio also has to understand lighting conditions and know how to set the shot up, BUT once the lights are set up and the shoot is underway the lighting doesn't change, unless the subject turns a way that makes the lighting not as beneficial as it was meant to be.

In short, A monkey could never accomplish what either type of photographer can. And to even suggest that is an insult to all types of photographer.
7/7 and fav my friend.

My Best Regards

Sam Graziano III

Dear Peta, this is so pretty that I suspect you snuck into New South Wales to find it - LOL !! Just joking, know how you Aussie's are about YOUR territories/states...... Is THIS what you and Peeps are argueing over? I thought it was something important like the fine art of "Brazilian Waxes" or something. Anyway, very nice shot, very nice new B/W headshot you put up, very nice website... life is totally groovy honey love. I predict you and Peeps will make up sooner than 2 shakes of a Kangaroo's foot - no worries my dear. Mark "The Peacemaker" Julian PS still waiting for that info.....

wish i was there Peta!!!
love the calm and the tranquillity that came out from this location. And reading the about i have to say this: in my personal way to take photos i have less difficult to take landscape's shot, but i think it's only my problem, cause looking at your portfolio all the world can see that you can take perfect and original nature or landscapes shots and people or portrait so well too....

Awww, the light is GORGEOUS.

An absolutely fantastic Polaroid, Peta.
Now that you have acquired the shot, could you tell me which direction I should point MY Polaroid? I want this shot as well.

The truth (for me) is that any professional has a tendency to make their craft 'look easy'.

Sain individuals like you and I understand there's always mixed opinions...that is not the issue here. My problem with the above quote is the mass insult he got away with. Its got nothing to do with my opinion of his work (which has always been v-high). He just loves to stir up trouble, and put other down. Its got really old and predictable now. ZZzzzzz

There is a lot to be said about ppdx's quote, that is fore AND against... Film vs Digital, B&W vs Color, Canon vs Nikon (Canon Rules by the way... hehehe), landscape/cityscapes vs studio... All I can say, is thank God we don't all like the same things, otherwise this world would be one very boring world.

I for one, have thoroughly enjoyed ppdx's images ;-) However, I don't particularly mind a well executed landscape like this either. In fact I think that your image is almost perfect... I know! Add one of ppdx's models in the landscape and Voila... A perfect silicon valley!

On a serious note though, there are challenges in all forms of photography, the main thing to remember though, is to have fun DOING IT (regardless if it is a landscape or one of ppdx's models)... ;-)

Beautiful shot Peta. Very well composed and the side lighting adds a nice warmth to the boulders. I ventured down south to Wilsons Promontory once as I had seen amazing landscapes but it rained almost the whole time I was there.

Thanks for sharing the quote - I agree this person clearly has no idea and will certainly not gain friends demeaning the skills of a landscape photographer to something achievable by monkeys!!

Definately a safe shot Pete, "grin" unlike the safety of studio lights natures lighting can be fickle, and changes constantly. you could go out 100 time and not get the same "safe" shot, but i'm sure if you in a studio and turn on you already set lights up you could get the same shot as you did yesterday or last month, right down to the look.
don't get me wrong but even the best studio guys take more than one shot to get it right and more than once use a tripod to do that. "Just set up a tripod and take 100 pictures until u get it right... Too easy, no skill..."
agree rubbish

Great boulderscape, Peta, great golden lighting & reflections, I love the smooth sand on the beach and the > < symmetry with the other shore line. As for the quote, I don't know... it's true that it's easier to photograph a landscape because it's not moving and it doesn't give you bad looks (like people sometimes) - but you still need to know what to do to make it exciting :)
