About Another entry into the B&W flower project. I've added Sepia toning, adjusted light, added 20% small grain and enjoyed this version . . . it looks so different from the color version.

Thanks very much Michele . . . it's very kind of you and yes, it's a small world . . . considering I was born in Florida . . . Hillsborough County . . . Uhhhh . . . well, some time ago. LoL! Now, of course, I'm Waaaaaay behind here at UF!

I hadn't realized you two even knew each other. She is my third FC Award . . . and I'm glad for them when they come ..... If you click a person's name, the left column will list many links . . . but above the portfolios . . . you can look at their FCs. They're nice, though not as celebrated . . . because they indicate helpfulness . . . not tech skill with a camera. Of course, comments I get from you and Sheila and many others are often nicer . . . We had a great time . . . . haven't seen all the photos yet . . . and stayed up past midnight twice in a row . . . There was little we failed to see or shoot in our short time. Now . . . back to work and a much needed rest!! LOL!

:)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

I too like the tone of this image Doyle.
Nice image, with detail and exposure.

I am writing tonight to 'Congratulate Your Critique Award' .. I would've given it to you if I could have a looong time ago !! You deserve it the MOST !

Talk about a small world Brenda Guiles was a native Melbourne, Fl. local and I was new to the nieghborhood, hers... She is an excellent photographer and I like her. She set me straight in a quick hurry ...which was probably what I needed !
I learned to know what I was shooting very quickly because of her and I credit her for this ... It is important.

Just thought it interesting you critiqueing her... and both of you critiqueing me , her at my start + you in my middle (I hope) to have a longer future ! Just wanted to share this and Congratulate you. I'd say I am a very lucky person actually .....
Michele~

Like it! It is like they are lit in the middle Doyle. The sepia adds a bit of mystery and a little poignant.

Thanks Shirley . . . I was suprised too! Still preferred the color but felt this shot had it's own merits in different ways . . . like comparing apples and oranges, perhaps. That's why I decided to post both.

Thanks for the helpful comment James . . . I liked the mono-version because it was, essentially, a different shot. I agree with you about the preference for color . . . and the more distinct separation of blossoms from BG. Thanks!

Man, that's tough. Or maybe my brains not working so well today. I think probably the color version. Big fan of purple, don'tcha know.

The trouble with the sepia version is that you lose a level of contrast between the flowers (the two main ones) and the background (purple-green gets washed pretty close in sepia).

Maybe that could be worked out by separating the foreground and background (on different layers) and working their contrasts individually? I don't know.

Hope that useful. See you around.

Thanks James . . . curious as to your preference between this and the full color version!

Brings it closer to the realm of IR. Nicely toned.
